We offer services to victims of discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodations, and credit transactions. The HRC has jurisdiction over incidents that occur within the City of Dayton. However, there are many instances of discrimination or unfair treatment which occur outside the city. Depending on the location, you may wish to seek out assistance from the following agencies.
The primary educator and enforcer of Ohio’s state-level anti-discrimination laws. If you have been discriminated against and the
incident did not occur within the City of Dayton, OCRC is an available resource.
Encourages fair housing practices through education; assists those who may be victims of housing discrimination; identifies barriers to fair housing practices; works with government to improve fair housing laws; and takes action to ensure laws are properly enforced throughout the Miami Valley.
Ensures covered employers do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age (40+), disability, or genetic information, and prohibits retaliation against individuals who report or participate in discrimination-related actions.
HUD provides housing support and uplifts communities. If you have been discriminated against (and the incident did not occur
within the City of Dayton), you may contact HUD’s Office Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity for Ohio.
The legal advocates of ABLE and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) are non-profit regional law firms that provide high quality legal assistance in civil matters to help eligible low-income individuals and groups in western Ohio achieve self reliance, equal justice and economic opportunity. They provide a full range of legal services including legal advice, negotiation, litigation and community education to low-income residents of 32 northwest and western Ohio counties. They have offices in Dayton, Defiance, Fremont, Lima, Sandusky, Springfield and Toledo.
